About Resotek

Resotek was established in 1990 by three former employees of Schlumberger Technologies in Dorset, after another round of redundancies due to downsizing after the MoD started cutting back on new projects. We decided that the ATE being produced was too expensive for most companies, and thought we could design a useful system around a standard PC with IEEE instrumentation and/or custom hardware.

We developed a demonstration system using a PC, VXI rack and IEEE interface, and this led to our being offered a specification for a production test system. We identified instrumentation and other components, and designed and built a system, and wrote a generic test environment and self-test program. The customer was sufficiently satisfied that they bought several more, and asked us to design two other systems, including one which tested up to 16 modules simultaneously.
The systems were still being used more than 10 years after they were built.
Building electronic systems became uneconomic after CE regulations meant they would have to be independently tested for RFI.

We also developed a stock-control system that used weight sensors to calculate quantities of components, display the current status of all the bins, and alert to items requiring re-ordering (even via a remote connection).

Software was also developed for a telephone test system, where a 'base' system would use a dial-up modem to connect to a remote system, and perform measurements of the phone line, then reconnect to send back the results. It was designed so that an unskilled person could connect the remote system, and the tests could be run from a base location.

Another system had been started by someone else, but they couldn't fulfill the customer's requirements, and so some custom software was developed to produce a dynamic display from a database used for resource tracking and order planning (based on resource availability) - visible on multiple PCs, each scaled to their screen size.
It is still being used, and they have asked for some enhancements

Recent projects have included producing a program and database to run on a handheld GPS device, to capture locations and use forms for data collection 'on the go'. Other software then 'merged' updates (from 2 devices) into a master database on a PC. (the device was incompatible with the PC database).more..

Another customer was using a database for their Orders and Stock control, but were copying details (usually from a printout) into an Excel template for printing or emailing; some macro code allows the template to be filled in automatically, from the database, with a simple click..

Other 'add-on' code for Excel has been used to create webpages, exporting invoice data for importing into Sage, and producing custom sheets for Risk Assessment, from a 'master list', based on the user selecting various options.

Resotek relocated to the East Midlands in 1997, and now concentrates on software.
